Understanding the Process of Obtaining a Certificate of Destruction.

A Certificate of Destruction (CoD) is an official document issued by an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) to confirm that a vehicle has been scrapped in compliance with environmental regulations. To obtain a CoD, follow these steps:

  1. Deliver Your Vehicle to an ATF: Ensure that the facility is licensed to handle end-of-life vehicles.
  2. Provide Necessary Documentation: Present the vehicle’s V5C logbook and valid photo identification.
  3. ATF Processes the Vehicle: The facility will depollute and dismantle the vehicle according to legal standards.
  4. Receive the CoD: The ATF will issue the CoD, typically within 3–7 working days, and notify the DVLA to update their records.

It’s crucial to retain the CoD for your records as proof of proper disposal. For more information, refer to the Certificate of Destruction Explained guide.
