Our Story
From A One Man Band Covid Startup – To Multi Award Winning Team!
Scrap Local is a Lancashire based company that was founded by time-served scrap metal dealer and digital marketing specialist Martin Handley in July 2019.
After consolidating his 17 years industry knowledge & digital marketing skills into what is known as Scrap Local today, Martin has built a team that connects scrapyards to it’s customers effectively at scale with tech.
It’s been a rollercoaster start-up journey, that almost ended before it began due to launching just a week before the global pandemic in March 2020.
But after years of hard work and determination, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed building a sustainable business that makes an impact to so many individuals, business and more importantly the environment.
Throughout our early years of growth, we started to get a good reputation for ourselves in the industry and even won several prestigious awards in 2021.
We even made a tv appearance on channel 5’s “Car Pound Cops” explaining how Scrap Local helps clear nuisance scrap vehicles from the streets with our network.
We’re a team of ambitious, creative individuals who continually help thousands of customers get an amazing service from local scrapyard every day.
We love innovating for the recycling industry and aim to make a positive impact to the economy by creating a community of responsible recyclers.

Both the comparison site and Scrap Local called the following morning and arrange for the car to collected on the Monday. Friendly Driver came on time within the 8-12 time specified and called up in advance to let me know his ETA. He was equipped with a starter pack, and jump started the car, as the battery was flat. Filled in the yellow section of the V5C and loaded it onto the flatbed.
I received payment to my bank account the same evening by about 6pm.
It has efficient and hassle free dealing with both companies, in the handling of my vehicle. Would recommend their services to others.
