Dundee LEZ Car Checker

On the fence if you’ll be charged or not in Dundee’s low emission zone?

The key emission standards outlined by Low emission Scotland include:

  • Any vehicle that is Euro 4 standard (petrol and diesel cars and vans registered from 2006) will be charged
  • Petrol and diesel Cars and vans that are standard Euro 6 (registered from 2015)
  • Buses, coaches and HGVs that are euro 6 standard – registered from 2013.

The Dundee city council conducted an emissions assessment in line with the Scottish government, in which 1300 residents were offered a preference for vehicle exemption and boundary placement.

You can check your vehicle’s emission category via your logbook; however, the handy Dundee low-emission car checker tool is just as fast.

Map and Location of the Dundee LEZ

The low emission zone in Dundee will mainly cover key areas that preside in the A1991 inner ring road.

However, this will include an exemption for Bell street and two NCP (national car parks). These are on Wellgate centre and West Marketgait.

Most roads included in the Dundee LEZ will run the entire length. Although some will only be half-length. Other roads included in the proposed LEZ boundaries are

  • Bell Street – Between Victoria road and constitution road.
  • Dock street – Through Whitehall crescent and commercial street/ A991 junction.
  • King Street – Between St. Andrews St and North Marketgait.
  • Between west Marketgait and Crichton Street.
  • Seagate – Between Commercial Street & East Marketgait.

Fine, and penalties in Dundee’s LEZ

Low emission Scotland has been very transparent on what you’ll be fined if you continue to breach the rules.

As mentioned, your initial charge to enter and drive in the Low emission zone can be reduced by half if paid in 30 days.

However, if you continue to breach the rules, a cap has been set out.

This stands at £480 for cars, vans and LGVs.

For HGVs and non-compliant buses, this is £960.

Dundee Low-Emission Zone Grants & Funding

Dundee city council has started to open up grant funding for residents within the Dundee low-emission zone.

The support fund will include incentives for both businesses and residents alike. These include:

  • Dundee city council offers up to £2,000 to residents who safely remove their car with an authorised treatment facility or vehicle recycler (just like us!)
  • A travel better grant also offers a voucher of £500 (per resident, max 2 per household) which can be used for shared or public transport

The Scottish government has worked incredibly hard with central government and local councils such as Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Initially, a BEAR (Bus Emission Abatement Retrofit).

Following success in Glasgow, £16.8 million of funding supported the costs of over 1100 modes of public transport within Scotland’s air quality management areas (over four years).

Phase 5 of the BEAR fund is now up and running. You can apply and check eligibility here.
