Are you on the fence if you’ll be charged or not in Dundee’s low emission zone?
The key emission standards outlined by Low emission Scotland include:
The Dundee city council conducted an emissions assessment in line with the Scottish government, in which 1300 residents were offered a preference for vehicle exemption and boundary placement.
You can check your vehicle’s emission category via your logbook; however, the handy Dundee low-emission car checker tool is just as fast.

The low emission zone in Dundee will mainly cover key areas that preside in the A1991 inner ring road.
However, this will include an exemption for Bell street and two NCP (national car parks). These are on Wellgate centre and West Marketgait.
Most roads included in the Dundee LEZ will run the entire length. Although some will only be half-length. Other roads included in the proposed LEZ boundaries are
Low emission Scotland has been very transparent on what you’ll be fined if you continue to breach the rules.
If your vehicle is non-compliant, fixed penalty charges – starting from £60 – will be reduced by 50% if you pay within the first 14 days.
Additionally, a cap has been set out if you continue to breach the rules:
Dundee city council has started to open up grant funding for residents within the Dundee low-emission zone.
The support fund will include incentives for both businesses and residents alike. These include:
The Scottish government has worked incredibly hard with central government and local councils such as Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
Initially, a BEAR (Bus Emission Abatement Retrofit) was introduced in Dundee, which is a technological upgrade applied to existing buses to reduce their pollutant emissions. This includes nitrogen oxides and particulate matter.
Following success in Glasgow, £16.8 million of funding supported the costs of over 1100 modes of public transport within Scotland’s air quality management areas (over four years).
Phase 5 of the BEAR fund is now up and running. You can apply and check eligibility here.
Dundee’s low-emission zone will provide real change and benefit to residents and businesses across the area.
With pollution levels in Dundee reaching alarming levels, now has never been a better time to find sustainable methods of transport. With current support available, those who are eligible must receive it.

Locally, if you are a resident and business within 20KM of the zone, you will be exempt for two years (until 2024).
Dundee city council is following suit with other LEZ cities in Scotland where the following grants and funding are available.
