Sheffield Clean Air Zone Start Date

Sheffield’s Clean Air Zone was officially launched on 27th February 2023.

Approved in July 2022, signage was installed in late August 2022.

Initial grace periods for some LGVs and taxis ended on 5th June 2023, meaning all non-compliant vehicles are now subject to charges.

Check Your Vehicle In Sheffield

As a class C Clean Air Zone, certain vehicles that don’t meet emission standards must pay a daily charge. These include:

  • HGVs, Buses, and Coaches Below Euro 6 (Diesel) 
  • Vans (LGVs) and Minibuses below Euro 6(Diesel)
  • Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles below Euro 6 (Diesel) or Euro 6 (Petrol)

Certain exemptions apply for those driving into Sheffield’s Clean Air Zone. These are divided into national and local exemptions.

Charges In Sheffield's Clean Air Zone

If your vehicle does not meet emission standards, you must pay a daily fee to enter and drive in the Clean Air Zone for 24 hours.

  • ANPR technology monitors incoming traffic and detects non-compliant vehicles.
  • Charges must be paid online via Sheffield’s Payment Portal.
  • Extra penalties apply if the fine isn’t paid within 7 days.
