The chargeable clean air zone in Portsmouth will affect certain vehicles, particularly those travelling across the Wightlink ferry line.

A Class B zone towards Portsea Island will charge HGVs, buses, coaches, private hire cars, taxis and other vehicles from the southwest area of the city.
Initially, the Portsmouth CAZ was set to cover all of Portsea Island. However, following consultation the area will now be scaled back to the western side of the city and won’t include the Portsmouth International Port.

The government has mandated that Portsmouth has a CAZ.

This will cover an area in the southwest of the city including the city centre where pollution is highest.

The CAZ will not cover other areas where air pollution is high like the M27 and A27 as these are government-controlled roads.
